Photography Competition: International Competition On Wildlife Photography 2009

Theme: Mammal Predators in their Habitats
Deadline: 31st December 2008
Awarding of Prizes: 2 May 2009 at the 56th CIC General Assembly in Paris

General Rules

  • Only photographs of wild animals, birds or mammals, alive and free in their natural environment can be accepted. Also, generally speaking, all types of photographs considered contrary to the ethics of wildlife photography will be excluded.
  • Photographs already submitted to previous CIC competitions will not be accepted.
  • Digital photos will be accepted. See instructions below.
  • Each photographer may submit a maximum of 3 photographs in total.
  • Photo proofs: Either format 13 ×18 cm, 9 × 12 cm or A5 and a slide (copy); not for digital photos The name and address of the photographer should be added to each picture.
  • Digital photos, additional rules: These must be submitted in 2 formats on a CD together with the paper copy:
  • a copy identical to the camera copy (this copy will not be included in the contest)
  • a copy of the version with which the photographer wishes to enter the competition (colour balance rectification etc., but no montage).
  • The following formats can be accepted: JPEG, PCX, GIF, Clear, ICO, BMP, PBM, PNG, Tiff or Sprite.
  • Candidates are strongly advised to add their name, address and email address on the CD, preferably in a normal text file (.txt).

Judging
Imagine Publishing will appoint a judging panel to short list entries and winners in each category. The decision of the judges is final and the organisers will not enter into any correspondence regarding the judging or organisation of the Awards.

Notification
Winners within each category will be announced on the website and in the magazine in January 2009. The overall winner of Digital Photographer of the Year 2008 will also be announced on the website and in issue 78 of the magazine.

Prizes
Overall winner of the Competition will receive a Fujifilm S5 Pro, and other prizes TBC.
Category winners will be awarded a Fujifilm camera, model listed below. Imagine Publishing and its partners reserve the right to substitute prizes with a comparable alternative. Prizes are non transferable and no cash equivalent will be offered.
Winners should allow 90 days for receipt of their prizes.

Photography Competition: National Photographic Portrait Prize 2009

The National Portrait Gallery invites all Australian residents to enter the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2009. The exhibition will be displayed in the National Portrait Gallery from 20 March to 24 May 2009 and will subsequently tour to a select number of Australian capital cities and regional centres. The Prize is an annual event intended to promote the very best in contemporary photographic portraiture by both professional and aspiring Australian photographers.


Prize:

$25,000 for the most outstanding photographic portrait with the generous support of Visa International Service Association.

Judging:
A panel of 3 judges will make an initial selection from all entries to determine the shortlist of finalists for inclusion in the exhibition. Only successful entrants will be contacted by the Gallery. The judges will choose the prize winner from the portraits on display in the exhibition. Entries will be judged on power of the portrait photograph rather than the status of the sitter or the reputation of the photographer.

The 2009 Judging Panel will consist of: Mr Andrew Sayers, Director, National Portrait Gallery; Dr Christopher Chapman, Curator, National Portrait Gallery; Professor Sarah Miller, Faculty of Creative Arts, University of Wollongong.
