Still Life: Objects, Images and Patterns
Theme: Still Life Photography
Still life photography is the depiction of inanimate subject matter, most typically a small grouping of objects. Still life photography more so than other types of photography gives the photographer more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition. Often still life photography is based on Dutch still life painting from the 17th century.
Still life photography is a demanding art, one in which the photographers are expected to be able to form their work with a refined sense of lighting, coupled with supurb compositional skills. The still life photographer makes pictures rather than takes them. So what is contemporary still life photography?
Deadline to submit: August 7, 2011.
Exhibition Dates: September 1-20, 2011
Opening Reception: Friday September 2, 5-8:30 pm

Back In Black
Theme: Black and White Photography
A juried exhibition of black and white photography. There is often a classic, nostalgic and dynamic translation to black and white photography. Black and white has an important tradition of luminous, well-crafted and thoughtfully composed imagery. Contemporary photographers are involved in this dialog of history and tradition, but with their own modern voice, visions and aesthetics of imagery.
Deadline to submit: July 10, 2011.
Exhibition Dates: August 1-22, 2011
Opening Reception: Friday August 5, 5-8:30 pm

Vermont Photo Space Gallery – Persona
CALLING FOR SUBMISSIONS
Juror: Chris Buck
Submissions Close 8/16/2011 at Midnight EST
We’re looking for something beyond the traditional portrait – more than just a eloquently captured face. We’re looking for uncanny, parody, distortions, subtle suggestions and in-your-face implications. For “Persona” we’re looking for portraits devised outside the box (or in one, might also be applicable in certain circumstances!) – we want to see the characters you’ve captured.
There can more to a superb portrait than a superb likeness of an individual a the testimony to their soul can be visioned way beyond the eyes. How much can you tell us about a person with just one image? Their life story? Perhaps. How did you show the idiosyncrasies, quirks, that make your sitters both physically and emotionally, individuals? We can’t wait to fill our gallery walls with a newly visioned kind of face – portrait as character and caricature.
All selected entries are included in a full color exhibit catalog. Juror’s Choice receives a 20×35″ vinyl exhibit banner featuring their image. We offer free matting and framing of accepted entries for the duration of each of our exhibition, subject to standard sizes. Photographers set their own prices if they wish to sell their work and retain all rights to their photographs.
